No, this isn’t a spam post. This is a post I’m making so hopefully people won’t have to go through the hours of fruitless searching I did to get this working.
First, download this. You’ll need this.
Alright, now do you have AutoCAD installed on a 32-bit, Windows XP system already? Go copy it from C:/Program Files/. It’s the folder named “AutoCAD R14″.
Put it on a flash drive, and copy it to C:/Program Files/ (NOT Program Files 86x).
Now, copy the files out of the .zip file I gave you at the beginning, and put them in the AutoCAD R14 folder on your 64-bit machine.
Right-click on the file called “acad”, go to Properties>Compatibility. Set it to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3, and check the box that makes it run as Administrator.
Hit OK and double-click “acad”.
You’re welcome.
PS (1/26/2013): I cannot provide ANY FURTHER SUPPORT to this tutorial. I did this as a quick and dirty thing for work. I’m not really a computer wizard or anything, I just googled a bunch of stuff.
Thanks! Tried TurboCAD 18, but so used to AutoCAD 14 that I just got fed up, This works great, some commands are missing and I have to remember to save before quitting, but great to have AutoCAD r14 back. (XPS 2.1GHz, 4 GB ram, 64bit win 7 home premium)
Thank You …ô¿ô
Followed the installation instructions and all seem to work. First tried running the program without over writing the 3 files and was getting some errors. What is different about the 3 files that had to be downloaded and installed in the AutoCAD R14 folder?
I will be exercising numerous commands over the next weeks. Are there any know problems?
Thanks very much for your help.
The files were provided in another tutorial I found. All of this is kinda mish-mashed together from other people’s guides, so I can’t really help on specifics.
Is this still supposed to be a working? I have tried this on a couple of Win7 machines without any success. I am copying my working AutoCAD R14 files from my WinXP machine. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, I don’t have access to a 32bit system anymore, but I do have my AutocadR14 disc, will your above mentioned fix to 64bit windows 7 home premium still work, I really need to get R14 back to my present laptop, got so used to it, any advice welcome. Thanks Jeremy
Thanks for all your help. I’m still having some trouble viewing raster images that I had attached when using autocad rel 14 in Windows XP. I can’t use the “image” command to attached bmp or jpg files. Any ideas? Thanks!
I have successfully loaded autocad rel 14 on HP 2000 notebook with Windows 8. Yet, the image command won’t work.
Be glad to help other load rel 14 on their pc.
Any ideas on why the image command won’t work and why images won’t show up in autocad? Thanks.
